Exhibiting Artist of the Month - September 2017
Betty Thibodeaux Porche
Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild Artist of the Month - September 2017: Betty Thibodeaux Porche
Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild has selected Betty Porche as Artist of the Month for September. Porche will also represent the Guild at the annual Art After Dark event. A reception will be held on Saturday, September 9th from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at Downtown Art Gallery 630, located at 630 Belanger Street in downtown Houma.
Porche always had the desire to paint, but never had the time until a serious illness forced her to reconsider during a slow recovery period. She enrolled in art classes and learned how to paint. Painting became a wonderful therapy when she began with classes in oils with Dottie Billiu, but soon discovered watercolor with its soft, impressionistic shapes and colors. She studied with Carolyn Pellegrin and Myrna Waters as well as the art instructor at Nicholls State University. Porche also took classes with professional artists such as Joan Blackburn of Pensacola Junior College, Tom Lynch, Paul Jackson and many others.
Her artwork has earned numerous awards at local and regional art competitions. The art associations Porche has membership in are New Orleans Art Association, Louisiana Watercolor Society, Artists Guild Unlimited of Morgan City and Louisiana Arts and Artists. As a member of Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild, she
has served the Guild as President and currently holds the title of Gallery Director. She gives workshops at Downtown Art Gallery 630 and Jean Boudreaux Studio. Porche is extremely thankful to be an artist and painter.
