Exhibiting Artist of the Month - August 2017
Donna Belvey Knight
Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild Artist of the Month - August 2017: Donna Belvey Knight
Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild has selected Donna Knight as Artist of the Month for August. The exhibit will be on display August 1-31, at Downtown Art Gallery 630. An artist reception will be held on Sunday, August 20, from 2 -4 PM. Family, friends and art lovers are invited to attend.
Knight, a transplanted Mid-westerner from Indiana has made her home in Houma for a number of years, and vows to remain in Louisiana forever. She began her art quest after retiring in 2014, taking painting instruction at Brushworks Academy of Art under Stacey Fabre. Painting soon became her passion and felt she needed more than one hour weekly lessons, so she began going to the Senior Citizens painting classes and also attended classes at the Folklife Culture Center with instruction by Robbie LeBlanc.
At about this time, Knight joined Terrebonne Fine Art Guild where she was warmly welcomed by many talented artists. She began taking weekly art lessons with Karen Kelly at her home studio. Knight gives Kelly credit for developing her new-found artistic talent which has helped to progress to the level she paints at today. “Karen seems to instinctively know what I am trying to say with my paintings and helps me accomplish this,” says Knight. “Under her direction I have been able to compete and even win an award in a local competition. To be a successful artist in my book is not how much money I make, but to paint paintings that make people happy. I just want my art to find good homes.” Knight plans to continue to study painting techniques with Kelly at her private studio as well as painting with the group of talented local artists at Folklife Culture Center.
Knight’s choice of media is Acrylic paints. Artwork on display range from local Louisiana scenes as well as old barns from the mid-west. Florals are also a subject she loves to tackle. Gallery hours to view the exhibit is Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 AM to 4 PM at 630 Belanger Street in downtown Houma.
