Exhibiting Artist of the Month - July 2017
Jeanie Lopiccolo
July 2017 Artist of the Month: Jeanie Lopiccolo
Jeanie Babin Lopiccolo has been selected as Artist of the Month for July by Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild at Downtown Art Gallery 630, located at 630 Belanger Street in downtown Houma. Downtown Gallery is open for viewing, Tuesdays to Fridays for 10 AM to 4 PM. Entry into the Gallery to view exhibits is always free of charge.
Lopiccolo began painting in 1997 after joining Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild and started taking art lessons with Karen Kelly and drawing classes from Gabrielle Bethancourt. Workshops offered by the Guild also advanced her painting education. Pastels workshops with Darlene Johnson and Sandra Burshell of New Orleans as well as watercolor classes with Mary Jane Cox of Baton Rouge and Bert Andry of Thibodaux added to her art knowledge. Other workshops Lopiccolo attended were Rhea Gary and Connie Coogan in oil painting. She also took workshops with Sue Sickles and Tanya Dischler as well as many others.
After studying these varied mediums and techniques, Lopiccolo discovered her love of painting abstract or non-representation designs and fell in love with working in inks. The majority of artwork in this exhibit are abstracts using alcohol and acrylic inks. “I love doing abstracts and the way ink works the paper”, explained Lopiccolo. Her artwork has won numerous awards in local competitions and art shows. In April this year, she won Brilliant Use of Color Award for her abstract ink painting.
As a member of Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild, Lopiccolo has served as President, Second Vice President, Corresponding Secretary and Gallery Director. While serving as Gallery Director she also served as Newsletter Chairman for several years.
An artist reception will be held at Downtown Art Gallery 630 on Saturday, July 15th from 2 - 4 PM. Family, friends and art lovers are invited to celebrate Lopiccolo’s exhibit with her.
