Mamie Blanchard Braud
Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild Artist of the Month - October 2017: Mamie Blanchard Braud
Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild has selected Mamie Blanchard Braud of Thibodaux as Artist of the Month for October. Her artwork will be on display at Downtown Art Gallery 630 from Oct 3 – Novermber 13, 2017. Gallery hours at 630 Belanger Street is Tuesday to Friday – 10 AM to 4 PM. Visitors are welcome to visit the Gallery free of charge.
Braud loves to paint Cajun scenes, including Cajun and plantation houses, magnolias, irises, waterlilies as well as shrimp boats and the bayous that can be seen through the region. Having been raised in Lafourche Parish, she is quite familiar with all things Cajun. She relocated to Brewton, Alabama where she began taking time for art. At Jr. Collage in Brewton she studied art under John Spicer and pottery with Larry Manning. She knew she had made the right decision in taking these classes. When she returned to Thibodaux, she continued painting and studied with John Meyer and Dottie Billiu Studio One in Gray.
She has acquired a distinct style of painting and has earned numerous awards. As a more realistic painter she prefers acrylics, but does work in other mediums as well. Her small Cajun houses are in collections locally and throughout the world. Many locals have commissioned her to paint their houses because they like her style of painting. Painting these local scenes is very relaxing to her. One of her hobbies now is digital photography which she uses to photograph the things she loves to paint. With a click of the keyboard, she can readily view the photographs stored there, choosing the photo for her next painting session.
As a member of Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild, Braud has had several one-woman shows through the years and also has exhibited in Napoleonville at the Assumption Cultural Art Guild, River Region Art Association in Gonzales, Coastal Commerce Bank in Thibodaux and many local craft shows. Braud invites family, friends and art lovers to come view her exhibit.
